photo on fire station bay door - Japan

https://goo.gl/maps/Q3BHkefHhVtsp7bA9

Yokohama City Fire Brigade in Kanagawa Prefecture (State)

Fire Brigade = volunteers

Fire Department = main station = paid guys

Fire Branch Station = sub station = paid guys

possibly the vols only get alerted during disasters and major fires -
their fire stations are approx 1/2 mile from each other

paid stations are usually 1 to 1.5 miles apart

this applies to all of Tokyo (except downtown) and also Kanagawa
Prefecture - probably the rest of Japan is similar

the vols might not have SCBA - they might just do exterior
firefighting - they might not do any EMS work

vols seem to have their own chain of command and their own chief - but
they take orders from the paid guys at emergency scenes

I suspect that everyone (vol and paid) is dispatched from the same
fire dispatch office - maybe even on the same radio freqs - most vol
stations have horns or sirens - so maybe they do not have pagers - but
I bet they get text messages nowadays
