1995 - TPA approved to bust clots in brain after stroke
no new treatments available until 2015
2015 - started to stick catheters in peoples groins and thread up to
brain - where the catheter would grab the clot and remove it from the
brain
85% of strokes are ischemic (blood clots)
15% are hemorrhagic (bleeds)
TPA is only effective up until 4.5 hours after stroke starts
clots can be removed via catheter up to 12 hours after stroke (iirc)
