Boston - 1980s - walking down West St (whatever the next small street
after Bromfield off Tremont is) - there is a commotion in the doorway
of a small store - it is a weekday
I have told this story before
2 white guys - maybe 40 - are tussling with another white guy - all of
them were 30 or 40 - one guy was maybe homeless - poorly dressed -
with a cut on his head - looked like the 2 other guys were store
employees trying to put a towel on the guys head - but he was
resisting
so I said something like - time out - let him go - they let go of the
guy - he immediately calmed down and held the towel to his head
shortly thereafter a horse cop came trotting up and called for an ambulance
I left - came back 20 minutes later - ambulance was just pulling up -
cop was still sitting on his horse
iirc the Boston EMS ambulance took the (homeless) guy to the hospital
- or maybe it was treat and release) - wasnt a major injury in other
words
keep in mind - no cellphones back then
this incident came back to me as I was posting about George Floyd
