update on champlaign tower collapse - miami dade florida

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaZcyq7YsNA - 40 minutes

changes were made as building was constructed - some beams were
omitted below the planter boxes - possibly too much weight there

note - I am pretty sure there is a 100% safety overdesign in these
buildings - if a column has to carry 1,000 pounds - the column that is
installed is sized to carry 2,000 pounds - I am not positive about
that but I am pretty sure that it is true - of course this might make
the building twice as massive as it needs to be

note - you also need to know difference between live load and static /
dead load - "live load" is the people that come and go; and the cars
that come and go; and the winds that come and go - "static load" or
"dead load" is the loads that never change (such as beams, columns,
walls, floors, ceilings, hvac, etc - the engineer who designs the
building follows the building code - and the building code will tell
the engineer what live loads and static loads have to be considered -
and how much of a safety factor is required for each - and the
building code is developed by a bunch of suits who sit in a room and
smoke cigars
