400,000 EMTs are certified in the USA

Since then (1970), the National Registry has certified nearly two
million EMS providers. Today, over 400,000 individuals are currently
Nationally Certified at the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR),
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced-EMT (AEMT), or Paramedic
level.
