they have a combined police / fire dept with 16 people on duty per
shift - ems is handled by the south county amb service
keywords - pso - public safety officer
recent help wanted ad on their dps facebook page does show "free fire
academy" offered to prospective employees - so definitely some sort of
PSO activity in the agency - aka combined police / fire
the city has $22M in cash in the bank - unknown why
they spend $7.3M on public safety + $9.6M on public works + $4.6M on
general govt + $1M on admin services (whatever that is)
gonna take a wild guess here - no one in admin or public works or
general govt is trained or equipped to fulfill any police or fire or
ems or civil defense functions - which is totally bad of course - they
should all be trained as CERT responders as a minimum (CPR and fire
extinguisher and basic police function and basic scene safety - you
know - the basic CERT curriculum)
population of the city is only 16,000 - and it is surrounded by
farmland - and it has no major industrial sites
Public Safety: Administration/Detention $ 858,883 $ 880,383 $ 942,052
$ (61,669) Police 3,430,065 3,611,275 3,213,925 397,350 Fire 1,656,630
1,734,614 1,726,086 8,528 Total Public Safety $ 5,945,578 $ 6,226,272
$ 5,882,063 $ 344,209 - very interesting - police budget shows as
$3.4M versus fire budget of $1.7M - even though they are a combined
agency of some sort
there are 3 'fire stations" - they have multi bays and lots of big red
trucks - also - there is a very large 5 bay unmarked garage right next
to DPS HQ - DPS HQ has lots of police cars parked around it
question - does the new madrid fault go right under this little city?
