These awards identify the best vehicle choices for safety within size
categories during a given year. Larger, heavier vehicles generally
afford more protection than smaller, lighter ones. Thus, a small car
that qualifies for an award might not protect its occupants as well as
a bigger vehicle that doesn't earn the award." How do we find the
safest vehicles? We need a list that gives each vehicle a rating from
1 to 10 - maybe a 1 can keep people safe in a 40 mph crash and a 10
can keep people alive in a 120 MPH crash - then we can figure out for
ourselves how many bucks to spend for the most "safety" bang - unless
the dynamics of crashes are much more complicated than we imagine
