los angeles fires killed 440 - ???

" Los Angeles was the site of 14 devastating fires in January, which
killed up to 440 people and burned a collective 57,000 acres.

More than 18,000 homes were destroyed between Jan. 7 and 31, and over
200,000 residents were forced to evacuate.

The bulk of the damage was caused by the Eaton Fire in Altadena and
the Palisades Fire in the Pacific Palisades areas of Los Angeles
County. The property damage and death toll inflicted by the two fires
made them the second- and third-most destructive in the state's
history. "
