Paul Hattis at the Lown Institute, a nonpartisan health care think
tank, says some emergency room doctors are under pressure to submit
high codes to maximize revenues. That's because they work for private
equity or emergency medicine companies that contract with a hospital
to provide care, and the corporate bosses pressure the doctors to
attach high codes to insurance claims.
