UK medic survives after 25 shocks

http://www.ems1.com/ems-products/cpr-resuscitation/articles/26471048-UK-paramedic-survives-cardiac-arrest-after-25-shocks

65 year old medic - witnessed arrest outside - fast CPR - 5 shocks on scene and in ambulance - 20 shocks at hospital - is OK now

500,000 could be saved in USA annually

Years of Life Lost in USA

https://sites.google.com/site/usapublicsafety/home/misc/2010-years-of-life-lost

Nothing much changed from 2010 to 2013 - the top 4 killers in the USA
(in terms of Years Of Life Lost) are - cancer - heart disease -
unintentional injury - suicide (intentional injury you might say)

the breakdown is -
cancer 23%
heart 15%
trauma `13%
suicide 5%
childbirth & infancy 3%
chronic low respiratory 3%
diabetes 2%
stroke 2%
homicide 2%
liver disease 2%
misc 24%

We know that of 400,000 out of hospital sudden cardiac arrests each
year - only 6% survive. Of 200,000 in hospital cardiac arrest - 24%
survive. IIRC my earlier research showed that 40% of inhospital
cardiac arrests can be saved if shocked within 1 or 2 minutes. 80% of
arrests occur at home and 50% of those are witnessed. Per
http://www.ems1.com/ems-products/cpr-resuscitation/articles/2255015-Report-U-S-out-of-hospital-cardiac-arrest-survival-rates-unacceptably-low

What does this add up to?

1. If more people paid attention to their health, death rates would
probably drop in half. (just a wild ass guess on my part)
2. If every cop had an AED and trauma kit, probably 500,000 lives per
year could be saved.

Lets be outrageous!

Who killed more people - Hitler or Obama?

Honestly gotta say that I think it is a very close call.

CPR survivors are usually neurologically intact
