approximately 1000 emergency 911 calls per year. We serve the towns of

OUR LOCAL 911 CALL SYSTEM

When calling 911 from your home phone, any where in our area, the
call goes directly to our dispatcher in Augusta. If you use a cell
phone in the middle of our coverage area it also goes directly to the
Augusta location. If a cell phone is used in the outer area of
Parsonsfield your call will go to the Sanford dispatch center. The
Sanford dispatcher will take your information then transfer your call
to Augusta dispatch. The Augusta dispatch will then ask again for your
information then dispatch the call. If a cell phone is used in the
outer area of Porter your call will go to the Oxford County dispatch
center. The Oxford dispatcher will take your information then will
transfer your call to Augusta dispatch. The Augusta dispatch will then
ask again for your information and then dispatch the call. Because the
outer area CELL phone calls go through two dispatchers there is a
slight delay in our crew getting the needed information. This happens

they also put both agencies on the same radio systems in 2021

in Australia - the primary emergency telephone number is 000 for
police, fire, ambulance and everything else pretty much

so maybe someday they will merge everyone into one super safety outfit

telephone number for Australia - so why not just have 1 agency? cant

Resident physicians specializing in Emergency Medicine need a strong
foundation in the understanding of EMS systems, since these services
significantly impact their current and future day to day practice. In
the Mass General and BWH-based Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine
Residency (HAEMR), residents are educated about the scope of practice
of EMS providers, differing EMS system models, on-line medical
direction, and the administrative environment in which EMS systems
function.

First year residents have a 1-week EMS rotation which includes
ride-alongs with ALS/BLS ambulances and Boston MedFlight, a day at the
Boston 911 call and dispatch center, required readings of landmark
articles and current controversial topics in EMS, and opportunities to
attend regional and state EMS policy meetings.

Third- and fourth-year residents provide on-line medical control to
ambulance services covering nine communities and providing
Interfacility transfers. At the beginning of their third year, HAEMR
residents attend a 3-hour course on the basics of on-line medical
control including a review of EMS protocols, legal issues, and case
reviews.

Throughout the four years, HAEMR residents are presented with lectures
on the history and operations of EMS, disaster topics and current
practice and literature. They have the opportunity to attend disaster
exercises, teach paramedic classes and attend community events with
EMS.
