Communications
Next to personnel, the most important function for the Fire Department
is the ability to communicate. It is the very life blood of the fire
service. To this end, the District spent considerable resources to
enhance the communications capabilities of the Fire Department. New
fireground portable radios were installed on 180 & 181, District wide
mobile radios placed on 2442, 180 & 181. Trunk radios were
reprogrammed to allow them to be more user friendly. 18 new pagers
were purchased along with the reprogramming of the pagers to negate
all members being alerted for EMS calls, especially at night. The T1
line was moved from Pepsi to Amato Farm and the T1 located at Heritage
Hills Tower was finally activated after many years of inactivity. Most
important, 8 new toughbooks were purchased and placed on Cars 2441,
2442, 2442, R20, 80-B1, 80-B2, 80-B3 and a spare. New finger readers
were installed in each firehouse.
As the year ended, the three trunk radios assigned to the three
Chief's and two Fire Captains were outfitted to provide the ability to
activate the siren in the event of a working fire.
