basically there are 4 types of public FDs in the USA
Type 1 - totally funded by contributions from local folks - not very
common - maybe more common in the deep south - maybe 1% of FDs - lots
of fish frys and pancake dinners and gun raffles etc - bingo even
maybe
Type 2 - funded by a mixture of tax money and donations - more common
in NY and PA maybe - maybe 5% of FDs - maybe many of these FDs also
raise money by running function halls next to the fire station - which
makes for a handy storm shelter
Type 3 - funded primarily by tax moneys from a local government budget
- maybe 50% of FDs
Type 4 - funded primarily by taxes raised by a fire district - these
fire district taxes are set by the governing board of the fire
district (who typically are retired members of the FD or local leaders
or members of the FD) - maybe 45% of FDs
just pulling this info from the brain registers - might be off by 20%
to 2000% - give or take a millenia
