bulloxed up - screwed up - messed up - lanes closed for repairs
I wonder how much it would cost to build a tunnel under the canal? Or maybe some sort of swing bridge? The canal is 760 feet wide at the Sagamore Bridge. Are of the boats using the Canal in a big hurry to get from Boston to NYC? I cant really imagine what boats even travel from NYC to Boston. Maybe some petro barges from terminals near NYC? Or is that all done via pipeline? Do we have huge shipments of legal documents and jewelry from NYC to Boston daily?
It is approx. 336 miles via ship from Boston to Ptown to NYC. It is approx. 275 miles via ship from Boston to Cape Cod Canal to NYC. If the boat can go 10 MPH - then we are talking a 33 hour trip vs a 27 hour trip. Does 6 hours make any difference?
Freight can also travel from NYC to Boston via air, road, and rail.
I bet that 2 new replacement arch bridges would cost $4B - like 2 casinos worth. I bet that 2 flat bridges would cost $1B total. That's a $3B saving with no appreciable down side. Enough to build one more casino - for the children. Yee Haw!
