Public safety radio encryption in the USA

Question - should the public have real time access to local police
radio communications or not?

Benefits -

1. The public can use info to assist police with breaking incidents

2. The public can use info to protect themselves

3. The public can use info to judge the usefulness of police in the modern age

Drawbacks -

1. The police can face increased risks

2. The police efforts can be stymied by criminals with access to police comms

3. The public can face greater risks if criminals get the upper hand on police

4. If the police use radio secrecy to pervert justice and democracy,
then grave consequences will follow.

THE FACTS

1. There really are NO facts. There are no studys on the issue.

2. Countries with the supposed hardest lines against scanners are
typically aligned in an evil axis. Yemen, Saudi Arabia, North Korea,
China, England - especially England. lol

3. Nations face many threats. Genocide, civil war, natural hazards,
nuclear war, disease, pestilence, global hottening, Visigoths, etc.
Police radio systems are one plug in the dike against eternal
ruination.

Questions

1. Are most police radio comms in Mexico encrypted? Mexico seems to be
a prime example of a nation where the criminals have conquered the
police.

My Opinion

The USA police want to use encryption because they want more power.
Its not about protecting themselves from physical harm. If they were
really concerned about their own physical safety, they would operate
much differently.

Police will gain more power via encryption because they will be able
to hide from the public, the FBI, and the news media. There will be
few checks on their excesses. Power corrupts - absolute power corrupts
absolutely.
