$330,000 each
"donated" by county to local FDs ... seek to get $150,000 in
reimbursements / rebates on new engines ... ? FROM WHO ?
county population is 50,000 ... half live in city of starkville
=================
I am not sure of the exact financing arrangements but I think that
things work this way ...
Starkville city taxes fund the starkville fd
county taxes fund the other stations in the county ... lets call them
the 'rural stations' ... the county seems to own all of the rural
fire stations
if you look at the county fire coordinator webpage you will see 7
local fire chiefs listed ... there are 14 rural stations with 21
engines
county volunteer firefighters are not paid but they do receive
reimbursements for expenses ... lol
maben and sturgis are small cities but they are considered rural
stations ... both maben and sturgis have their own fire chiefs ...
maben has 3 stations .... sturgis has 2 stations
radio wise ... I suspect they are all on the same radio system and all
are dispatched by county 911
ergo ... this is a county fd .... or 99% of a county fd ... they just
dont have a county fire chief ... but they do have a county fire
coordinator
for iso ratings ... starkville and univ of ms is class 3 ... there are
4 fire classification districts that are 5 and 7 ... anyone over 4
miles from fire station is class 10 ... not sure why 4 miles ...
everywhere else in USA it is 5 miles ... not sure why there are 4
classification districts
it would all be much simpler on paper if there was 1 county fd under 1
county fire chief all funded by county taxes
not sure why the new engines are 491 and 791
