fire service in the los angeles area - speed of response
generally speaking - for the los angeles area - if you call 911 to
report a fire - you will get -
1 fire engine (a pumper) will show up in 5 minutes with a crew of 3 or
4 people - the pumper has 500 gallons of water on board - if they pump
all that water thu their deck gun it will be gone in 30 seconds
2 or 3 or 4 more pumpers will show up 5 to 15 minutes after 911 is called
(things are different in the mountains - thats a different story)
in most city and suburban areas - a aerial truck or two will also show
up in 5 to 15 minutes - they will have crews of 3 to 5 people each
city and suburban areas have fire hydrants - rural areas might have
cisterns or swimming pools - or a couple of water tanker trucks
in the brush areas - usually 2 or 3 helicopters - and 1 or 2 tanker
planes - will show up in 10 to 30 minutes
Los Angeles City FD has 100 pumpers and 45 aerial ladder trucks and 3
helicopters and 3 bulldozers
Los Angeles County FD has approx 175 pumpers and 35 aerial ladder
trucks and 10 helicopters and 40 small brush trucks and 10 bulldozers
Each FD also has approx 100 reserve fire vehicles - they are staffed
by offduty people as needed
