based on limited info from 12,000 miles away
most public safety agencies in australia are coordinated at the 'state' level
australia only has 5 states ish - north - south - west - new south
wales - victoria - iirc thats the whole show right there
most states seem to have :
a statewide police agency
plus a statewide ambulance agency (mixture fulltime and on call / volunteer)
plus a statewide volunteer fire agency
and a paid fire agency that covers the major cities and suburbs
and a statewide volunteer 'state emergency service' that handles road
crashes and flooding and sar and fallen trees
in addition - wildfire units are operated by watershed agencies and
state forestry and state parks
there are a few military bases that have their own police and fire etc
the private fire brigades at industrial sites seem to be in very rural
areas and play closely with the statewide volunteer fire agencies
various names are used - cfa - cfs - mfs - frv - etc - it varies by
state - such as country fire service (cfs) and county fire authority
(CFA) etc - this is where the marketing people rear their ugly heads
each state might have just 1 or 2 dispatch centers for each agency -
its kinda crazy - 500 fire stations controlled by 1 dispatch center -
its easy with a good cad and a good paging system and a good radio
system - they make it work somehow - not sure how fast it works
however
the statewide volunteer fire agencys use 'tankers' - the goofy looking
pumpers with 700 gallon of water and 2 scba each - the city FDs use
urban pumpers which are similar to usa pumpers but they also have
booster lines for attack (hard rubber hoses) - not sure if any of the
vol FFs have bunker gear or just jumpsuits
