think about how this money travels - federal taxes are ripped from
each worker and sent to Wash DC - a bunch of politicians sit on the
money in DC for a while and pretend to decide the best use for the
money - then the money is doled out to each state - then the
politicians in each state play games with the money for a while - then
finally 1 fireman somewhere is given a new set of gloves - and then
everyone has huge parties to celebrate another successful "grant year"
on the other hand - the federal hacks will say that their tax
collection system is more efficient than the state and local tax
collection systems

can you imagine what would happen if all the public safety agencies in
the USA were funded by donations?
note - the previously posted Hot Springs SD fire video has a comment
about a FD that is opulently funded by a local lottery
