creepy windows doing its thing again

yesterday - just for laughs - I hit the update button - (I have not
been manually seeking updates for the last 2 or 3 months) - got new
defs for Defender - and I got the message - as usual - you are up to
date

then for more laughs - I hit the Update button for a 2nd time - and
got a huge update

today - out of the blue - windows updates itself again

wtf ?????
