this is pretty insane
when someone scratches their skin - (maybe because it is itchy) - the
skin produces a special protein (IL-33)
the IL-33 then enters the bloodstream and goes to the gut - the IL-33
then starts a chain reaction in the gut - which causes more "mast"
cells to grow in the gut - which spur on food allergies
"mast cells" are the "lookout cells" - they look for trouble - and
when they perceive trouble, they spew out a bunch of chemicals that
activate an immune system response
personally - if I ingest a bunch of sugar - it can make me itchy and
scratchy - so then I eat a little raw ginger - and in 20 minutes the
itch has gone away - iirc I have done this 3 or 4 times - so it seems
to be real thing - one could jump to the conclusion that the raw
ginger is interrupting the chain reaction somewhere - gawd only knows
where
