would the world end if the US government passed a law that said that
no fire truck and no ambulance should be more than 10 years old?
what would happen?
maybe 50% of the units in the USA would have to be retired
the retired units would find their way to foreign countries and be
used for another 10 years each
fire department budgets probably would not change much after the
initial shock - a new pumper would still cost $500K - but upon
retirement it would probably be worth much more
a major benefit would be for disaster relief - all of the rural areas
could now drive their rigs to Calfornia to help out and not worry
about breaking down or crashing while enroute
and technological advancements would be introduced faster into the
fleets - in theory
I noticed that College Park MD seems to be replacing their aerial on
10 year spans now
