sure sounds like they are getting at least 1 wide area repeater channel
$860,000 project
would be cool if they got 4 wide area repeater channels
after a week of extreme fire weather / red flags - I bet that 4 wide
area repeater channels could come in very handy
I should punch 159.90 into my radio and see if I hear anything new
What if they did this? - lets say they have 10 radio sites that can be
grouped on the fly - a working wildfire starts in the north area -
link the 2 closest (northern) sites and make 160.11 the FG channel
with the 2 sites - then a working wildfire starts in the south - link
the 2 closest (southern) sites and and again use 160.11 as the FG
channel if possible (with different PL maybe) - now we are working 2
fires with only 1 channel - and we still have 6 sites in reserve - and
maybe 2 or 3 more channels
Bottom line - with 4 wide area channels - 1 could be paging and
dispatch - the other 3 could be used to handle up to 6 working
incidents
For a typical structure fire - onscene ops just needs 1 simplex channel
But for an incident that covers a large area - the repeater channels
sure would be nice
