Omega-3 fatty acids ameliorate symptoms in several animal disease
models, such as sepsis or autoimmune hepatitis, and have been tested
in clinical trials with positive outcome. Getting detailed knowledge
about the particular direct effects of omega-3 fatty acids on the
different cells of the immune system will allow future investigators
and clinicians to further optimize and implement omega-3
supplementation for the treatment of multiple diseases.
