I am pretty sure that all of those were paid rigs - except the rig at
14:00 - note they dont have turnouts on - I think that was a Machida
Volunteer FD engine
Machida Battalion of Tokyo FD has 5 paid stations iirc - so that would
be 2 paid engines per station - plus 1 paid ambulance per station -
plus 1 paid rescue truck and 1 or 2 paid aerials at the main station -
(in the video it is common to see 2 pumpers responding together)
The City of Machida operates the Machida Fire Brigade which is the
approx 35 volunteer stations in the city - the volunteers are part
time municipal employees
Note - Tokyo is essentially a Prefecture or State or County - it is
divided into approx 30 cities and 5 towns
The western cities and towns administer their own volunteer fire
brigades - the volunteers in the eastern 23 wards/citys are
administered by the Tokyo FD
There is only 1 telephone number for reporting fires and medical
emergencies - 119 - so the paid guys and the vols are coordinated thru
the same 2 dispatch centers afaik - I guess the vols are on the same
radio channels as the paid guys - not positive about that though
Note - Tokyo seems to have 2 types of pumpers - larger ones with water
tanks - smaller ones with no water tanks
Note - you can see one of the Tokyo firefighters in a pumper with his SCBA on
