9 minute video - great view of takeoff
On the 12th, the Ministry of Defense conducted the first landing test
on an unpaved runway with the latest transport aircraft C2 of the Air
Self-Defense Force at Gifu Air Base (Kakamigahara City, Gifu
Prefecture). It landed safely and the test seems to have been
successful.
C2 had removed the "rough terrain takeoff and landing function" that
takes off and landing on an unpaved runway that is not paved with
asphalt, etc. from the performance required at the development stage.
As the C2 export negotiations to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) came
to a close, the UAE asked for confirmation whether it could take off
and land on an unpaved runway, and a demonstration test was conducted.
The unpaved runway at Gifu Air Base is a road surface mixed with soil
and crushed stone, and is as hard as the soil ground.
At 2:34 pm, C2 took off from the normal runway of Gifu Air Base,
turned once around the base, then lowered the altitude and entered the
landing position.
At 10:40, landed on an unpaved runway while raising dust, and stopped
at about the middle of the runway two minutes later while maintaining
the normal attitude of the aircraft.
It can be said that the successful landing has proved that it has a
certain leveling takeoff and landing function, and the competition for
orders from the UAE, which is a single combat with the one made by
Airbus Europe, has gained momentum. In addition to analyzing the
collected data, we will also conduct a takeoff test soon after
investigating whether there are any problems with the aircraft.
