Mass - 3 towns booming

Plymouth, Nantucket and Hopkinton permitting most single-family homes

Using building permit data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the USA TODAY
Network in New England analyzed single-family home permitting for all
351 Massachusetts cities and towns from 2018-2021.

Based on reported local data and Census Bureau estimates, Plymouth
issued 1,702 single-family home building permits during that time, the
most in the state. Many might be surprised to see Nantucket come in
second, issuing 700 permits. Hopkinton, which has seen some of the
largest population growth in the state over the last three decades,
issued 555 single-family permits during that time, coming in third.

Other communities that more than once made the top-10 list of most
single-family permits issued between 2018-2021 include Franklin,
Falmouth, Lakeville, Millis, Attleboro, Methuen, Needham and
Lexington.
