in New England - if there is a DPW garage somewhere - then there is
also a fire station nearby
the only town that I can think of in New England that has a DPW but
not a FD is near Montpelier VT - FD was supposed to be on 151.28 but I
dont think they ever got a fire truck
on the other hand - in Pennsylvania and New York and Wisconsin - there
seem to be many Towns that have DPWs but they dont have FDs - not sure
why - maybe its a snow thing
DPW = department of public works = highway department = street
department = roads department
California does not have any areas with DPWs but not FDs - except
maybe in the Mohave Desert or in the deserts near Susanville - or in
the mountain passes - but that would be the State DOT
NY has County DPWs - didnt know that - Saint Lawrence County DPW and
Delaware County DPW and ?Sullivan ? County DPW have multi outpost /
patrol stations
NY DOT calls their offices "residencies" and "sub residencies" - based
on the Resident Engineer concept
in the SE there seems to be a fire station for every DPW garage - same for Texas
Oklahoma has some local Road Districts iirc - they might have DPW
garages but no fire stations (in the very very rural areas)
