per lafd ems webpage - they have 1200 ff/pm + 2500 ff/emt
average response times for critical ems calls are 6 minutes
average response times for structure fires are 5 minutes
average turnout times is 1 minute
average call processing times are 1 minute
so average travel times are 3 or 4 minutes
if you listen to their radio channels you hear a huge number of units
telling the dispatcher that they are closer to calls - and you hear
huge numbers of als ambulances being cancelled and replaced by bls
ambulances - and vice versa (bls for als ambs)
considering that they run 3 platoons - and have approx 100 stations -
they could have 12 people on duty in each station - these 12 people
could staff a maximum of 12 vehicles - or with 2 man crews they could
staff 6 vehicles per station
they could have a very flexible response policy - lets say that each
station had 4 ambulances and 2 quints - they could staff all 4
ambulances with 3 people each - or they could staff 2 quints with 6
people each - or anything in between
in 2000 - they had 7 minute average response times for 250.000 ems calls
in 2022 - they had 7 minute average response times for over 360,000 ems calls
