article has several problems - doesnt differentiate between FF and EMT
and ff/emt and ff/pm - doesnt list the cost of the Action EMS contract
- isnt clear on the Action EMS revenue - is it $700K each year over
the last 3 years for a total of $2.1M over 3 years? - was Action EMS
running a ALS ambulance? - just 1? - what other mutual aid is
available?
bottom line might be - the town will save money but not paying for
Action EMS's profits - will save money by having lower fire insurance
rates - town will earn more money by doing more EMS transports - town
will save more lives maybe by having faster EMS responses
if they have a 15 man paid FD plus a 15 man oncall FD - and the paid
guys also have pagers - and the paid guys all live in town - then they
can probably staff 2.5 ambulances
note - the ambulance that transports the patient tp the hospital is
the ambulance that gets the money for Medicare etc - if a mutual aid
ambulance goes into Hadley and picks up a patient - then the mutual
aid ambulance 'makes the money' on the call
note - each ALS call gets $1500 - its like free money for the town -
the town does not get any money for responding to police calls or fire
calls
