Response Efficiency: During a major 2024 structure fire on Dingle Hill
Road, the Mexico Fire Department coordinated with Rumford Fire to
ensure continuous coverage, with Rumford handling secondary calls
while Mexico crews focused on the Byron blaze.
Upcoming Support Study: A statewide study by the Maine Forest Service
and University of Maine, expected to be completed in summer 2026, is
currently exploring regionalization and sustainable funding as
solutions for rural fire protection gaps in towns like Byron.
