most colleges have police or safety officers - there is a on campus
24/7 dispatch center that is connected to blue phones and cameras -
some dispatch centers can lock all the doors on campus instantly -
many dispatch centers can receive all fire alarms and emergency alarms
on campus - most have alerting systems using computer apps - most
colleges have a 10 digit telephone number for reporting emergencies
and most somewhat insinuate that 911 should be called also
some campus safety / police will transport students to medical clinics
- or do safety escorts / transports
most campus safety forces respond to medical emergencies with cpr and
basic first aid - some probably have defibs also - probably narcan
also
A major difference between campus safety organizations is that some
have full police powers and some do not. Those with 'full police
powers' can make arrests (and we are pretty sure there are a million
different legal angles on that simple statement). Probably the
officers with 'full police powers' also carry guns - but the others do
not.
each campus is required to publish a Clery Report each year that
explains all the safety operations and give fire and crime statistics
for the campus.
dartmouth college in nh has a police marine unit - that might be the
only one in the usa
