Train derails in Mansfield, Conn., officials say
A train has derailed near Route 32 in Mansfield, the town wrote in a
Facebook post. Fourteen train cars derailed, and five landed in a
river, according to the Department of Energy and Environmental
Protection. DEEP also said the cars are carrying a flammable liquid
fuel. A half-mile evacuation is likely, DEEP said. The derailment
happened around 9:22 a.m., Connecticut State Police said. Route 32 is
closed between Route 44 and North Eagleville Road, and multiple
emergency responders are on the scene, the town said. No injuries have
been reported, state police said. No further details were released.
