The Forest Service's Wildfire Force

https://www.fs.usda.gov look under Featured Stories - The Forest Service's Wildfire Force the back story - this is info about the USFS only - it completely ignores the DOI wildfire units (BLM + NPS + FWS + BIA) - which this year have been merged into the US Wildfire Service - so the USFS decided it was a good idea to publish an article with the thumbnail of 'The Forest Services Wildfire Force' pretty sure that the US Wildfire Service was supposed to include the USFS - but they 'opted' out at the last moment - as if it makes any difference - as we have said many times before - they all merged back in the 1980s functionally - so all this 2026 stuff is BS pretty much NIFC at Boise and the 8 GACCs run the show - they dispatch all the heavy hitters - dispatch of the engines is still left to the local comm centers just for laughs - lets draw up a quick diagram - NIFC / Boise - 8 GACCs - over 114 local dispatch centers there are approx 114 dispatch centers here at wildweb - but some are state forestry - and there are probably some federal centers that are not on wildweb yet for whatever crazy reason - www.wildcad.net/WildCADWeb.asp and this doesnt even include all the small federal sites that might have just 1 brush truck - like Cape Cod Natl Seashore - or Gateway (NYC) NPS - or Shenandoah Natl Parkway - or Kennedy Space Center or Merrit Island NWR etc etc etc but - maybe on paper - and maybe in theory - all of the federal wildfire units are tracked by NIFC note - NIFC does NOT have a nationwide radio network to maintain contact with all of the federal wildfire units - if the commercial telephone system ever goes down - NIFC pretty much goes out of business NIFC could have a nationwide radio system - for example - with 1 base station on Mt Washington in NH - they could cover most of New England - they would just need a way to link Mt Washington to Boise - maybe FirstNet or Sky Link or shortwave could handle that mission - or even a network of ground relay stations - military had a ground net planned in the 1970s iirc - maybe at 139 mhz - maybe called GWEN - ground wave emergency net maybe
