USA fire service - priority concerns

just thinking outloud

What are the biggest problems facing fire departments in the USA?

1. No one thinks there are any problems - even though the country is
falling in the rankings versus other countries. Or everyone is afraid
to mention any problems.

2. IF we can get anyone to look for problems - and to try to fix them
before it is too late - how should we do this?

3. The way to find problems is to LOOK FOR PROBLEMS! Who should look
for problems? The USFA and the NFPA should look for problems. Plus
IAFC, NWFCG/ NIFC, ISO, IAFF, There needs to be a high ranking
committee based in Washington DC. They probably should operate under
FEMA. They should meet monthly in public. Discuss the major issues.
Propose solutions. Run trials and experiments. EMS needs to be
involved. Police need to be involved. Civil Defense needs to be
involved.

4. Just thought of something - maybe the way to kick this off is to
call for the formation of a National Fire Service. Did you ever wonder
why the FBI has 45,000 employees yet the US Fire Administration just
has ?10? people?

5. What would a national fire service look like? I have a very simple
answer. The Chief would be in Washington DC. Under the Chief would be
50 State Fire Chiefs. And under the 50 State Fire Chiefs would be
3,100 County Fire Chiefs.

story

Using computers and modern admin software - I am sure the system could
be up and running within 6 months. Think about this - how does Amazon,
UPS, UPSP, Fed Ex and others keep their trucks in operation 24/7 on a
nationwide basis. If they can do it - why cant the FDs in the USA?
