2 sept 2007 lexington mass to bid on hanscom afb amb contract

LEXINGTON

TOWN TO BID ON HANSCOM SERVICE - The town is poised to bid on a
proposal to provide emergency paramedic and ambulance service to
Hanscom Air Force Base. Hanscom is soliciting proposals for the
service, and Fire Chief William Middlemiss wants to provide it. The
service would allow the town to staff a second ambulance full time and
bring in additional revenue. Last week, Middlemiss said he preferred
not to disclose how much he estimates the town would earn, because the
bidding is competitive. He said the bid is due on Thursday. The
service would start in mid-September and last for one year, with four
one year options to renew up to a period of five years. The Fire
Department has one full-time and one part-time ambulance. - Connie
