Very good analysis. Lockheed was already aware by the late '50s that
the wing design of the C-130A (like Tanker 130) would be prone to
metal fatigue, and the wing was entirely redesigned for the C-130B and
all subsequent variants. While all A-models (and not just firefighting
aircraft) have been permanently grounded worldwide, some B-models,
built as long ago as 1960, are still safely operated by some small air
forces.

Excellent. Despite the less than stellar voicing / spelling - the
things that needed to be said were said. The Government abrogated
itself of any responsibility - Leaving the operating companies with
the choice either going broke - or risking lives in planes known to be
in poor condition.

I worked with a gentleman who worked as a maintenance tech for the
forest service. He couldn't get out of that organization quickly
enough. They were cowboyish toward maintenance and inspection
standards.
