Eighteen fire districts provide fire protection to all of York County.
Sixteen of the fire departments participate in the York County Fire
Service system. The Rock Hill and Tega Cay Fire Departments operate
independently, however, mutual aid agreements provide aid to all of
the fire departments as needed. The sixteen fire departments have
approximately 700 firefighters. The York County Fire Service has 97
pieces of fire apparatus distributed throughout York County, including
five aerial devices of at least seventy-five feet in height located at
Bethel (1), Flint Hill (1), Lesslie (1), Newport (1), and York (1)
Fire Departments.


The Insurance Service Office (ISO), which determines the insurance
rating for fire departments, has issued the following ISO ratings for
the fire districts of York County:

Where a single rate is indicated, the fire district has the same
rating for all structures located within five road miles of a fire
station. Structures located more than five road miles from a fire
station receive a ten (10) ISO rating. (No protection)
