MRI machine - safety issues

here is one of the very interesting comments

I installed and serviced a number of MRI's in the second half of the
80's. During that time, I had some minor issues that were caused by
careless people. Machine/equipment damage, no personal injuries. The
worst was a floor buffer that was brought into the room. Destroyed the
front cover and the body coil had to be replaced. A couple of weeks of
down time. The hospital had dedicated trained housekeeping people for
cleaning the MRI scan room. A fellow who was tasked to buff the
hallway floors outside the scan room after hours. He was not
authorized to go into the scan room, but was curious what all the fuss
was about with that machine and let himself in to check it out. He
decided the floor needed a little buffing around the magnet. The
magnet took his buffer away from him. Lucky no one was between the
buffer and the magnet.

A funny thing that happened during an install concerned a couple of
important hospital head doctors, hospital CEO and some people from the
engineering company that designed the MRI suite. I had that very
morning ramped the magnet. Brought it up to full strength in other
words. Before doing that all workmen in the area and department
medical staff had been warned. Warning signs put up and I kept the
door closed to the scan room that had a large warning sign on it
unless I or my partner for the install were going through it. At one
point I had left the scan room and was in the equipment room. Heading
back to the scan room I find scan room door now open and the gentlemen
mentioned about standing in their tailored suites directly in front of
the magnet. I entered and politely asked if I could help them with
something. One of the gentlemen smugly said they were there looking at
their investment. I then informed them if they checked they would find
their watches more than likely had stopped working and the magnetic
strips on their credit cards were now also dead. It is obvious none of
you have a pacemaker or you would be dead also. The head guy started
screaming at me that they were not warned. I remined him there were
large signs entering the suite they had to go though. There was a sign
on the door they had to open into the scan room. They were not happy.
I had a little chuckle.
