remembering back to 1976 - every FD in the county was on 1 repeater -
multi dispatch centers killed each other trying to get calls paged out
- if the repeater went down no one one realized it and calls went
nowhere
later they went to 4 simplex channels iirc - 1 for each quad
nowadays - the system should work like this - dial 911 - call goes to
closest public safety person who says - WHAT IS YOUR EMERGENCY? - then
code words are used to activate AI dispatch - code words are - fire
