watching the first 25 minutes we have learned -
news helo Air 7 is staffed 20 hours per day - they start up at 4 am -
do 4 feeds on tarmac - they launch at 5 am and go on patrol for news
until 730 am - then they land and are on standby until end of shift /
2 pm
N323CH is the childrens hospital helo - its big - it has 1 dedicated
pilot on duty 24/7
there is a 2nd helo based there for organ transplants - they have 1
dedicated pilot 24/7 also
LA is the biggest TV market in USA but only 4 TV stations fly helos -
there are only 8 news helo cameramen in total in the LA market
TV7 has 3 helos - they rotate thru them based on mtnce schedules
TV7 flys with a crew of 3 - pilot + reporter + camerman - some TV
stations fly with just a pilot and cameraman
marcel the stringer / cameraman used to be a firefighter - he has a
scanner going 24/7 - he worked his way into the job by working as a
stringer and then a caneraman for ads and TV shows and movies and then
as a flying cameraman for ads and TV shows and movies
he is SkySnitch on YT
they are expected to launch within 10 minutes of any activation
the camera operator has a scanner feeding into his ear as he operates
the camera - the reporter also gives him hints as to where to aim the
camera
video is sent to mtn top receiver sites via microwave - the microwave
antenna is mounted under the helo (about the size of a toaster)
the helo camera and gimble costs about $1M
