ANF = angeles national forest
LAFD = los angeles city fire department
pg 25 of 47 has the map - the gray area is where ANF responds into the
city - the dark green area is where the city responds into the Forest
- the white area in the NW corner is Sanat Claria and the county fd
covers that area
the red smudges on the green areas are the ANF fire stations - perhaps
ANF aircraft respond from Fox Field which is approx 15 miles to north
LAFD aircraft respond from Van Nuys Airport which is lower left
the dark green area has 10,000 foot mountains - maybe higher - its
pretty crazy topography there
did you notice the 6 ton elephant sitting in the corner?
'drawdown' = shortage of crews
did you notice how the county 152 mhz repeaters are the primary radio channels?
did you notice that white strip that runs north / south right in the
middle of the map? la county station 74 is right there
did you notice that (all) of the county helos are based right in the
middle of the map at Barton Heliport?
figured out the 6 ton elephant yet?
what this plan does not tell you is that the county fd also has a
mutual aid plan with the ANF - and it covers this same area - and says
basically the same things
so when any wildfire is reported in this area - anf sends 7 engines
and lafd sends 6 engines and county sends 5 or 6 engines also
we have commented about this area before - first alarm brush fires
typically get 15 engines + 6 helos + 6 hand crews and gawd only knows
how many airtankers
the lower right corner of this map is where they lost 5,000 homes in
Jan 2025 - so the whole area on this map is totally at super high risk
of being leveled - the green areas on the map do not have any homes
nor structures to speak of - the white and grey areas have tens of
thousands of homes
not sure why the grey area does not include Pacoima - that is a
different city that is under coverage by LAFD iirc
