Massachusetts now requires mandatory licensing for standalone urgent
care centers, a new regulation effective October 1, 2025, which
includes stricter reporting and oversight from the Department of
Public Health (DPH). The law also expands the authority of the
Attorney General and Health Policy Commission to review healthcare
market activities, such as mergers and acquisitions, and includes new
disclosure requirements regarding ownership and private equity
involvement. Hospitals, hospital affiliates, community health centers,
and limited service clinics are exempt from this new licensing
requirement.
