- they have at least 1 ambulance - 6822 - its right there in the flyer
no mention of an ambulance anywhere else on the FD website
https://fire.fandom.com/wiki/Ukiah_Valley_Fire_Authority - Medic 6822
is mentioned at Fire Fandom as a 2016 Chevy
"Although the (FD) ambulance service was shut down on April 1, 2013,
to date, the engines continue to provide ALS services with
firefighter/paramedics". - per FD History - oh OK - that helps to
explain whats going on
The County EMS plan does list the as a ALS agency

- march 2025 news article - FD struggles with calls
Within Mendocino County, five of the ambulance services are ALS -
paramedic level (4 ground and 1 EMS Air Ambulance helicopter), and
three are BLS -EMT level providers (3 ground). The Ukiah Valley Fire
Authority provides paramedic level first response to the county's
largest urban area. All other first responder services are at a BLS
level. per https://www.coastalvalleysems.org/about-us

Plan 2024/EMS Plans with attachements.pdf - Ukiah Valley Fire is
listed as a public 24 hour ALS transport agency

Plan 2024/EMS Plans with attachements.pdf - MedStar Ambulance of
Mendocino County is listed as a 24 hour ALS private transport agency
with a weird address in Ukiah - an unmarked house on a side street
with no garage
MedStar also covers Hopland and Willits and Redwood Valley

We [medstar] recently donated one of our Type III ambulances to
Hopland Fire Protection District. Hopland Fire runs over 300 calls per
year, and their district spans over ...(unknown year)
Hopland Fire does seem to have an ambulance if you look at their
photos - they also have a small rescue truck and 2 dozers and multi
engines - but they only have 3 FT staff and maybe 6 vols - but
population is only 1 K and going down
Hopland Indian Reservation to east has 3 med techs and health clinic
and 2 tanker trucks and a siren on their admin bld
we just figured out that both ukiah and willits have medevac helos -
we can find no info about how many MedStar ambulance bases there are
one other huge consideration - cal fire seems to staff many of their
stations 12 months of the year now - you can see 3 POV parked at the
Hopland CalFire Sta in Nov 2024 with 'Moderate' showing on the fire
danger sign
lets recap just Ukiah - 2 staffed 'city' fire stations - plus 1
staffed CalFire station (at north end of city) - plus 1 medevac helo -
plus 1 or more MedStar private ambulance stations (staffed 24/7 with
als)
===========================
if we had to guess - we would guess that ALL serious EMS calls get a
helo on initial dispatch - if no private ambulance is available - the
FD "Rescue" will drive the patient to a LZ if needed - helo then flies
the patient out of county
Note - the Ukiah hospital is supposed to upgrade to a Level 3 trauma
center in 2025
it would be great it Cal Fire could commit to staffing each winter
engine with at least 1 EMT and 1 defib
===========================
Note - all of this info just covers the SE corner of the county
