almost every FD in the USA calls their pumpers "Engines"
some rural areas might call their pumpers "Truck" or "Unit" - that
might be most prevalent in counties that do not have any aerial
ladders
however - in the Kansas City area - some pumpers are called "Pumpers"
- and iirc the Toronto Canada area also uses the term "Pumper"
I wonder what the official NFPA and FEMA terminology is - maybe NFPA
calls them "mobile pumping apparatus" or some such thing
the federal wildfire agencies seem to use the term "Engine" for most
of their pumping units - and the wildfire coordinating group has
typing standards for "Type 1 engines" + "Type 2 engines" etc
some areas are now calling their engines "Squads" or "rescues" -
probably because they have some rescue tools onboard that a typical
engine does not have
iirc in the Wash DC area some secondary engines are called "Wagons"
might be good to have nationwide terminology that covers what all of
these rigs are called on the radio
