Hampden County MA - misc health info

Substance use disorders overall (including alcohol) and opioid use
were of particular concern. • Opioid use disorder, which has been
declared a public health emergency in Massachusetts, is impacting
Hampden County residents with fatality rates higher than (nearly
double) that of the state. • Tobacco use remains high with an
estimated 24% of adults that smoke in Springfield. • Youth substance
use is also an issue with 7% of Springfield 8th grade students
reporting drinking alcohol and marijuana in the past 30 days. • Vaping
is now an emerging concern for youth with 19% of Springfield students
reporting that they have tried vaping.
