this article says that level 1 trauma centers have surgeons in house
but level 2 have surgeons on call - ish
we imagine that the real world works like this - ambulance crew
announces a "trauma alert" - the ER or hospital operator pages the
trauma team - trauma team goes to the ER - either from inside the
hospital or not
as long as the trauma team gets to the ER before the patient - then
all is good - if the surgeon is fully awake
in fact - if the hospital has a mobile operating room - they can
intercept the incoming ground ambulance - not that anyone does this
anywhere in the world
