How many United States $1 Billion+ Disasters in 2024, so far?

As of November 1, 2024, there have been 24 confirmed weather/climate
disaster events with losses exceeding $1 billion – it was another
above average year, with the 1980-2023 annual average of 8.5 events,
and the last five-year average of 20.4 events (both CPI-adjusted).
These were added to the growing list of 400 events since 1980, for a
total loss of $2.785 trillion (2024 dollars). According to the
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), 2024 disasters
of this magnitude included drought/heat wave, flooding, numerous
severe storms, tropical cyclone, wildfire, and winter storm/cold wave
events as depicted below. These events have resulted in 418 deaths and
$61 billion in losses (and counting) this year alone.

looks like the last 5 years has seen a doubling in major disasters

there will be no money for new fire trucks if this keeps up
