Completely Revamping Public Safety Operations

Smartphones and cellphones allow us to completely revamp public safety agencies and public safety operations.

Emergency incidents can be live streamed to dispatch centers by the public using cellphones since nearly all cellphones have video and audio transmission capabilities.

1. doctors can give bystanders detailed guidance to save lives

2. police dispatchers cant detect instantly where gun shots are coming from; or where perps are fleeing to; or obtain instant photographs of perpetrators.

3. fire dispatchers can instantly calculate the best windows to break at a firescene; best routes to flee smoke and flames; best methods to rescue victims

4. the precise location of any emergency can be determined to the centimeter

Given this huge change in the relationship between the public and the safety agencies; what changes are needed in the organization and delivery of public safety services?

Furthermore - with the advent of drones - perhaps there will be no need for "first responders". An ambulance drone will arrive at a scene, bystanders will load the victim into the drone, and its off to the hospital. A fire drone will arrive at a scene and extinguish any remaining flames that have not been extinguished by the bystanders. A police drone will pickup a perpetrator after he/she has been detained / neutralized / stunned by onlookers.

The future is almost here. Are we ready?
