Terrible. I'm not sure a 72 year old should really be on a lawn mower.
Surely a friend or relative could have done that work for him.

Reply to @Roratus: 72 is not that old-especially if the person is in
relatively good shape. I know many men (and women) in their
mid-seventies who are more than capable of doing most things they did
when they were 30 or 40.

FEMA retracts feel good reports
https://www.govexec.com/management/2019/05/homeland-security-watchdog-issues-unusual-retraction-13-fema-reports/157334/
all the reports that say that FEMA has responded well to disasters
will now be changed to say that FEMA responded bad to disasters
or something like that - really cant make heads nor tails of the gobblygook
fema only really gets involved in the largest of disasters - and they
dont have any real resources of their own - they just mostly
coordinate the state, local, and military resources - and how badly
can you screw that up?

did any dogs search for her?
did anyone yell "hello?" when out searching for her? maybe the jungle
is very noisy there and no one could hear her.
how far is the recovery spot from the car spot?
she seems to be very well groomed for someone who was alone in the
jungle for 17 days
maybe if they put out some traps with candy bars in them they would
have caught her
$75K raised in GoFundMe - some spent on rented helo
broken leg and she hopped onto the rescue net with no problem - no
screaming - no splint - no dangling leg - really?

Ennis TX FD is ISO 2/10
https://imageserv11.team-logic.com/mediaLibrary/2039/ISO_Letter.pdf
Class 2 within 5 miles of a fire station
Class 10 if more than 5 miles from a fire station
for class rated properties - what does that mean exactly?
lets compare
staffed fire station - can roll rig in 1 minute - 60 MPH on fast road
- can travel 5 miles in 5 minutes - so this is a 6 minute response
time for a staffed engine with 3 people
volunteer station - worse case scenario - 8 minute turnout time - 5
miles on 30 MPH twisty mountain road - 10 minute travel time - total
response time of 18 minutes for an engine with maybe just 1 person
so the class 9 volunteer FD would have a 18 minute response time while
the class 10 paid FD would have a 6 minute response time
I think that ISO has to start accounting for real turnout time and
real travel time
the difference should be real - lets say that a garage is fully
involved - the engine that shows up in 6 minutes can keep the fire out
of the main building - the VFD in 18 minutes will lose the garage and
the main bld - the city FD will knock out the 1 acre brush fire - the
VFD will see the brush fire grow to 1,000 acres - the city FD will
extricate a viable victim from the car wreck - the VFD will just wait
for the medical examiner and the tow truck to show up
this must show up in loss statistics somewhere
dont seem quite right

http://www.waxahachie.com/Ellis%20County%20Community%20Report%202018.pdf
amr is the provider - apparently they have a exclusive countywide contract
21% private pays
average response times range from 4 or 6 minutes in cities to 9
minutes in rural areas - well within contract requirements - and they
do inter facility transports also
I wonder if the county subsidizes them? no indication in payer mix

cant imagine that any shooter would ever care about FD stuff
most cities are totally unprepared for any Mumbai style attack - they
never train - they never plan - so why would any shooter care about
the FD? - or the PD for that matter? - when was the last time that any
PD stopped an attack? how many attacks do they stop? 2%?
Pearl Harbor and 9/11 were both sneak attacks - when was the last time
that ANYONE in the USA did a 'sneak attack' drill?

New Braintree FD pager test 619pm last night - Massachusetts
New Braintree FD pager test was at 619 pm last night - heard via
eDispatches.com Log
checking the Holland FD feed archive at Broadcastify - there was a
couple of tone tests heard at the 1700 mark on the 604pm tape - this
does not seem to be the same time exactly
therefore - maybe the Holland feed cannot hear the pages for New
Braintree FD on 157.45 - or New Braintree FD is not paged on 157.45 -
perhaps New Braintree FD is paged on 45.12 or something
as I am typing this - the archive tape keeps running - and a page goes
out for East Brookfield Amb to respond to mutual aid in Spencer for a
broken leg - aha - now we know that the Holland feed can hear the East
Brookfield pages with no problem - and we pretty much know that New
Braintree is no further away then East Brookfield is - and then West
Brookfield Amb gets paged out - so apparently the Holland feed can
hear all of the paging on 157.45 with no problem - good to know
which would lead us to the mighty conclusion - New Braintree Regional
Areawide Emergency Central Dispatch / "C8" - uses 4 or more channels
for paging FDs and Ambs
157.45 - Wales + Holland + Brimfield + East Brookfield + West
Brookfield + North Brookfield
45.12 - New Braintree - maybe
154.7325 - Brookfield - maybe
45.52 - North Brookfield Amb - 45.52 per notes from Feb 15 2018 -
(North Brookfield has new repeater on 155.0925 - unknown if used yet)
- [ actually - Jan 2018 note shows North Brookfield Amb gets paged on
45.52 and 157.45 ]
what channels do Hardwick and Petersham get paged on?

San Diego cops - 70% live outside of city
https://twitter.com/JohnAFisher/status/1129752809723895810
thats kinda weird - all of San Diego strikes me as being one huge suburb
I wonder how many suburban cops live in San Diego?
I imagine if you did a analysis you would find that 50% of dwelling
units in San Diego County are within San Diego City - I wonder what
the breakdown is on single family homes vs multi family homes
My town seems to be 50% single family homes and 50% multi familys -
but we are only 5 square miles - of course many single familys in
Arlington have basement apts - not exactly legal - but that makes them
actually multi family instead of single family - and airbnb is
probably turning everything on its head
next town to west is Lexington - they are probably 95% single family homes

I still have no idea how they are operating
If they really wanted to improve things - they would get a free
standing ER on the Lower Cape - that was supposed to happen in East
Harwich in 1976 iirc
Maybe an ambulance bus would be good also. If they could take more
than 1 patient to Hyannis at the same time - that would be a huge
plus.
Maybe more community medics would be great also. Cut down on the
demand for transports to Hyannis biggly.

Polk County FL tape at YouTube
https://youtu.be/2R07XhpcrM0
statter put the Broadcastify tape at YouTube and got 16,000 views
--------------------------------
I relistened to the radio tape from broadcastify today - since the
first time I listened to the broadcastify tape I have read some of the
2 official reports on the fire - so listening to the radio tape again
has been a little more enlightening
19:45 on the tape at archive.org - I am pretty sure that Engine 6
asked for the caller to step outside and flag them down
23:40 E6 asked the dispatcher to "get with the homeowner" and find out
if the structure was vacant
the dispatcher never said that we are on the line with someone in the
house - the radio dispatcher said something like - we got word from
the RP that someone is trapped
Maybe that explains it - maybe Engine 6 Captain was under the
impression that the RP was not in the home; and possibly was relaying
info from someone somewhere else
so then he pulls up with a 3 man crew - orders the 2 FFs to drag a
supply line away from the building - and ends up standing next to the
bld with the victim inches away - and he is by himself - so he needs
the squad and E23 to help him to meet 2 in 2 out - or just to help him
in general because there is no way he can go in the front door alone -
maybe he could have gone in a back door if there was one
but even when e23 and squad ?7 arrived they immediately restated it
was defensive
maybe there had been 30 false alarms in that neighborhood recently and
they thought this was an elaborate prank of some sort - maybe thy
thought it was a drug lab
-------------------------------
to recap
E6 kinda gets lost going to the fire
then E6 Captain ends up standing next to the burning building by
himself - and he is praying with all of his might that no one is
inside - but there is

asked for the caller to step outside and flag them down
23:40 E6 asked the dispatcher to "get with the homeowner" and find out
if the structure was vacant
the dispatcher never said that we are on the line with someone in the
house - the radio dispatcher said something like - we got word from
the RP that someone is trapped
-------------------------------
to recap
E6 kinda gets lost going to the fire
then E6 Captain ends up standing next to the burning building by
himself - and he is praying with all of his might that no one is
inside - but there is
atlanta firefighter hit on interstate
https://www.firehouse.com/safety-health/news/21080172/atlanta-firefighter-struck-at-scene-critically-injured
looks like it is right in a curve and right after an onramp
FF was hit immediately as he stepped off engine as it moved into a
blocking position - car hydroplaned

New Freqs USA for week ending May 12 2019
would the world end?
would the world end if the US government passed a law that said that
no fire truck and no ambulance should be more than 10 years old?
what would happen?
maybe 50% of the units in the USA would have to be retired
the retired units would find their way to foreign countries and be
used for another 10 years each
fire department budgets probably would not change much after the
initial shock - a new pumper would still cost $500K - but upon
retirement it would probably be worth much more
a major benefit would be for disaster relief - all of the rural areas
could now drive their rigs to Calfornia to help out and not worry
about breaking down or crashing while enroute
and technological advancements would be introduced faster into the
fleets - in theory
I noticed that College Park MD seems to be replacing their aerial on
10 year spans now

The Rutland Town FD (with 2 stations) protects the area surrounding
the City of Rutland - the City of Rutland FD has 1 station
City FD = fully paid
Town FD = all call iirc
Guess what county they are both in? yup - Rutland County

https://www.cnn.com/2019/05/09/politics/comey-russians-leverage-trump/index.html
CNN's Anderson Cooper asked Comey at a town hall in Washington, "Do
you think the Russians have leverage over President Trump?"
"I don't know the answer to that," Comey responded.
"Think it's possible?" Cooper asked.
"Yes," Comey responded, without hesitation.
===================
Question - is that dialogue from CNN or a Barney / Moe bit from the Simpsons?
Apparently the CNN writers were told to come up with mindless pablum
that could be interpreted in a hundred different ways.
Honest dialogue would have gone like this -
Do you think the Russians have leverage over Trump?
I dont know
Why dont you know? You just spent 2 years investigating him.
He was very tricky and secretive - he has 70 years experience in being
a deviant psychopath - look at the pictures of him with his daughter.

Re: Simpsonville SC getting 6th station
per the map - distances from proposed sta 6 to other stations
3.0 miles to Simpsonville HQ
2.7 miles to Simposnville Sta 3
2.75 miles to Clear Springs FD HQ
so the new station is clearly filling a hole in coverage
unknown how many blds are in the area
kinda strange how it does not cause a big ISO improvement though - I
know the area is within 5 miles of existing stations - but so what? -
isnt 2.5 miles much better than 5 mile responses? - maybe not - if
anyone should know it would be ISO

recently added 5th station
you can click on map markers to get addresses
clearly seems to cover an open area
cost will be $1 per week per home - maybe $2 after you throw in $6M
for new station
are ISO 2 already - slight chance they might save on fire insurance
should be a great chance?
location is outside of city but within FD service area
let me plot it on a map
